• Your gratitude is refreshing to see. I has something to do with your success so far. And gratitude is one emotion that science shows to be an important component of happiness. Congrats on all your success so far, and I wish you more as you continue to hone your skills and find out where your journey takes you.

  • Hey WriterDad. I didn't realize this great blog was only 5 weeks old. Well done. I know exactly the gratitude you feel when so many talented people reach out to tell you that they appreciate what you're doing.

    Talk to you soon

  • Writer Dad,
Congratulations on your success! I wanted to visit earlier, but I've been keeping my 8-month-old grandson, who doesn't like to sleep :).
I'm not surprised by your popularity at all--I've told you before, your writing is awesome.
  • Writer Dad
Texas Holly: I like your name, and your site's adorable. Thanks for giving me a lot to live up to. I am quite sure that StumbleUpon is quite amazing. I just have to figure it out.

Urban Panther: You are always welcome.
  • Yep, you've sparked interesting conversation in my 'house', and the conversation in your 'house' is fascinating. Thanks for the Link Love and the thanks.

  • I was one of your stumblers and although we are a short attention crowd we don't forget something we like.

Thanks for your comment on my post today. I really enjoy your writing. I don't think you have come close to the peak--so the pressure is off!

Your success in such a short time is a testament to your hard work.
  • Writer Dad
Miss Thrifty: I should clarify. Despite the StumbleUponers spending an average of zero seconds on the site, and them accounting for a large percentage of the overall traffic, the average was four minutes. Thank you for being impressed, and thank you for the comment.

Vered: I'm not just thankful, I'm overwhelmed. I did not know to expect this. I read these comments and want to cry. The Writer Dad audience has done a lot to repair the damage from a lot of really bad teachers.

Al: I kind of feel like a veteran too. I wonder what it will be like a year from now. I'm guessing, fantastic!

Dereck: You found me, Dereck. Thank you. You went out of your way to help me when I was floundering on a feedburner message board. That's a pretty nice thing to do. I'm really glad you did.
  • Writer Dad,

I'm proud to have met you. I think you're terrific. I wish you continued success in your writing endeavors.
  • Hi Writer Dad - congratulations with the blog! I feel like you're a veteran blogger already, rather than just 5 wks into it. I guess it helps that you're a great writer :)

May I add, that you didn't have to go through the lonely first months of blogging, because of your obvious talent.

Ellen: This writer really needs a nap!

Chris: They have been wonderfully gracious.

Marelisa: You're very welcome. Thank you for always checking in and leaving a footprint.
  • Hi Writer Dad: Thank you for the mention. I enjoy your bog and I'm very appreciative of the insightful comments you leave on my blog as well. I've often wondered at the amazing abilities people on stumble and digg have as well. Apparently they can stumble you, then unstumble you, and then give you a thumbs up. It's really amazing! I'm glad you got such positive feedback on Friday's story, you definitely deserve it.

  • Writer Dad,

Hey! That's great! Sorry I missed a week, but you know how it goes.

Writer Dad is here to stay! I think your enthusiasm and perserverance will pull you through. A writer needs those things.
  • WD,

Thanks for mentioning me. I really appreciate your support as I find my way on the web. My technical abilities are good, but my writing has a long way to go.

Writing is a craft that I believe is honed with time and effort. It is not something that comes easily to all, but those who are gifted with natural talent, like yourself, and the tenacity to whittle that talent into a beautiful finished product provide us with endless amounts of wonderful reading material.

I like your style. I'm with Bamboo Forest. Down the rabbit hole we go...

Linda: Barbara works hard to bring people together. She should be proud.

Bamboo Forest: I don't want to disappoint you, but this is as deep as I get. We've already hit granite. Just kidding. Writer Dad's just getting started. I promise, it'll be exciting, and you'll get to say you were there first.

Sal: I stand corrected. Allow me to rephrase. Receiving such applause has encouraged me to play longer and better. Thank you.

Evelyn: Thank you. I have not been referred to as delightful since last Christmas.
  • Your posts are so delightful that it is hard not to notice your blog :-)

Sorry to jump in so late in the day today, but one thing you said struck me as odd. Here was your quote: "To have a voice and the encouragement to use it, is like a musician being told to get on stage and play."

Writer Dad, I hate to tell you this, but that is completely wrong! You have always had your voice (although it may have been hidden at times) and I strongly believe, from what I have heard about Daisy, that she was enough encouragement, imbodied in one woman to fuel your writing for a lifetime.

If we are comparing this to a musician, then we are just your audience; we didn't see the hours of practice, lips bleeding from the trumpet mouthpiece, fingers blistered from the vibratto of the violin strings, and frustrations of flat notes. No, Writer Dad, we are just your audience at your solo performance with the orchaestra backing you. We do, however, want an encore and we won't stop cheering and clapping until we get it!

  • Thanks for the kind mention. Your writing style is a joy to read. And - I like that you're not a big list man. Hell, I write lists sometimes... But I get tired of them after a while.

"I pictured the first six months of blogging as being a somewhat solitary ritual. "

Yeah, it's no fun blogging into a black hole. Looks like Writer Dad is just starting to get its groove on. We shall all find out how deep this rabbit hole will take us.

  • Thank YOU, WD!! You deserve all the goodness coming your way!

I must admit, as you say, I didn't expect to be "heard" this soon as a blogger and expected months on my own. We are so very fortunate to have found Barbara and the entire BWAB community!

Looking forward to reading more of your wonderful words.

Barbara: Thank you Barbara. Your blog is a resource, and it promotes community. It makes bloggers without a home feel as though they have one.

Emily: You're welcome, and thank you.

Lance: It is my pleasure, Lance. Thank you, and I enjoyed your Olympic post this morning.

Robin: This is a first for me, but so far, you're right. There's nothing like it.

Ryan: I promise I won't, but please, tell me if I am.

Mike: Thank you for thinking that I have the gift of words that move.

Stacy: It's like standing on a mountaintop. Thanks.

  • The Internet is a powerful tool for sharing our thoughts with like-minded people. Finding an audience is a powerful thing. You're using your creativity to share and connect with people all over the world - and that is a very cool thing.

Hard work, discipline, diligence - yes, these are the keys to accomplishing what we really want to - once we've found our voice in this world. You've found yours.

So, thank you. Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us!

How honored I am to be included in your list of those who have helped you. It's never easy being the new kid on the block (or is the blogk?), or worse yet, being a new blogger. Thank you for finding me, so I could find you. Although our friendship is new, I know it will stand the test of time.

Congratulations on exceeding your expectations! After reading your blog, it's easy to see how you did.
