• Vered: Sorry it's late answering the comment! I hope you printed it and read it, and I hope the wee-ones loved it.

Avital: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for calling it a song. That's awesome. It was indeed music in my ears.

Lance: Thanks Lance. I thought this one was fun for both the grown ups and the kids. Something for everyone.

Zorlone: Playful was what I was going for. I wanted it to be almost like a playground chant. Neiner neiner neiner, my mom's better than you... raspberries and such.

Mocha Dad: Thanks, man. Nice to know you!
  • Great poem.
  • Cool poem. The first stanza shows loyalty and dedication to your mom. Then the remaining stanzas just show how proud you are of her. hehehe. Don't we all share the same sentiment.

Happy mom's day to your wife and mom.

    Zorlone
  • This is so cool Sean! What a wonderful sprinkling of words onto screen, weaving a picture of both days long past and days very present. Awesome!
  • Wow, this song is beautiful!!! I LOVE it!
  • I love it, Sean. I'm inspired by the Daily Blond to print it out and read it with my kids tonight. :)

The Daily Blonde: Well shucks! I’m glad you read it to your little ones. That’s really what it was for.
  • Wonderful......I've read this several times and a few more times to my 3 youngest tonight at dinner. Kudos...as usual.

  • WRITERDAD'S MOM
HI, SEANY...I'm at work, making lots of mothers'day flowers and just took a second to pop into your site. Everyone wondered why I was standing here crying. What a fun surprise. I'd make you all over again!!! I'm going to miss seeing all of you guys today, but give everyone my love. OH! I LOVE IT! It put such a HUGE smile on my face, and made me giggle!
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
  • That was great! What a wonderful Mother's Day Poem bringing all moms to tears.
  • "A super star specimen, the cream of the crop.
In a pile of moms I’d find mine at the top."

What fun, sweet sentiment. Thanks for sharing this, Sean.

Happy Mother's Day to all of us moms! :-)
  • Chris: Thanks, Chris. I appreciate it. Let me know if your 8 year old likes it. I'm reading it to my 7 year old tonight. We can compare tomorrow. : > )

Tara: Well they're off to a marvelous beginning with a mum like you! Happy Mum's Day anyway.
  • It's not even mother's day here in England but I'm all agoo.
I only hope my boys blossoms to be so eloquent. x
  • Your writing continues to reach into me and tug all the right strings. This is wonderful, brilliant.

Sean, I am both inspired by and jealous of your talent (in a good way!).

I'm going to prove that stupid editor wrong. Tonight I'm going to read this to my 8-yr old boy. I guarantee he'll get it!

    Thank you for sharing!
  • Jeff: Thanks, Jeff. Killer kudos from a fellow verbal doodler. : > )

Randi: I agree. I'm doing everything I can to have my needs met this year. As soon as I can meet my baseline requirements for supporting my family, I will do everything I can to get some of my work in print. I have no shortage of ideas, from silly children's rhymes to adult fantasy and everything in between. I know my career is only beginning, but I must spark a flame before it can burn to inferno.
  • Ya know, that really angers me that the agent would say your words were "too rich for young readers." It's almost as if he's saying "We prefer that children be dumb." Sure, you use "big words" but kids learn to speak and read by emulating what they hear and see. I've learned that when you read to children you should always read something ever so slightly above their level so that they learn the syntax and innuendos of language.

What a suck monster! [See, one time you posted a comment that was slightly above my reading level and now I have a new insult in my repertoire.] So I guess we can all learn from this that the agent's words are not golden. It is the opinion of your fans, the public, that matters. And the tribe has spoken.
  • "Other moms are daisies.
    My Mommy is a rose.
    Other moms are nostrils.
    My Mommy is the nose."

Classic. I know what to write in my Mother's Day Card this year. "I love you Mom, you are the nose."

Seriously, this is beautiful work. Too rich for children? Not even close.
  • Hayden: It's a lotta giggles isn't it? Cool beans, that.

Tracy: Thanks, and happy Mother's Day!

Janice: I will do both, I promise. Happy Mother's Day!

Randi: Confession: I didn't write this last night. I wrote it over a year ago, technically before I really "started writing." It was part of the portfolio I sent off to an agent where my words were declared "too rich for young readers." So um, yeah... it's not that I'm not interested. I have a couple dozen stories, a few of which are FANTASTIC in my opinion, but right now I have to keep my head above water and I can't spare the minutes to chase publication. Besides, I think the tide is shifting BIG TIME and I'm curious to see what I can do on my own. By my own I mean without publishers, I love collaboration.
  • Seriously, as a mother who has read many, many children's books, you have what it takes. As I read this poem, I actually pictured myself turning the pages and seeing the cute illustrations (Um, Blogger Dad?) to go along. This is exactly the type of book that mommies get asked to read over and over and over....I can just see little kids wailing with hilarity at this one: "Other moms are nostrils. My Mommy is the nose."

I'm telling ya Sean...JUST DO IT
  • Please tell your mom we think she's great
for raising a boy like you,
and please give that hardworking mom at your side
a huge hug from all of us, too!
  • That's really cute!
  • "Other moms are tiny planets.
    My Mommy is a star."

I really really REALLY like this (stanza?) section. What a lovely poem to tell the world how awesome your mom is!
  • Blogger Dad: Yes, but then the gatekeepers told me my vocabulary was too rich for children and then I started a blog and then the blog ate me.

    Nicki: Thanks!

    Trina: (blushing) Thanks, Trina!

Laurie: I'm sorry about your mommy, but I'm glad you liked the poem. Happy Mother's Day.
  • Laurie
This was great! My mom died in 98 to a rare form of cancer. Not a pretty death. I miss her. Your poem reminds me of all the great things about my mom. Thank you Sean.

    Happy Mother's Day Mom!
  • Trina
that's Momerrific! And, what Mommy doesnt like to be called Mommy? Way to go WD!
  • So fun!! I love it :)
  • Ha! That is awesome and all kinds of fun. Did anyone ever tell you that you should write children's books?
