WOW! I was just surfing and came across this. What an amazing life, what an amazing wife. God bless u both.
  • Jennifer: Thanks! There is no doubt, writing is monumentally healing. I'm a different person now than I was a year ago, ink has everything to do with it.

Tricia: Thanks Tricia! (Happy Thursday to you)
  • Beautiful...the poem and the life behind it. Happy Birthday Cindy.
  • Dear writer dad, oh what a gift your writing is! And what a blessing you have in your wife, and she in you. Many happy returns to your Cindy. I know you've visted my blog today, thank you for that, but do come back. I write too, and will often post my soul for the world to read there on that blog.

It is what has saved me I think, healed me, and it has given me an insight deeper than most. I think you are discovering that too, you are so sensitive. Well done!

  • Jamie: It's weird. I never ever ever would have thought of myself as a poet a year back, but sometimes I find it's simply the best way to tell a story. thanks for the well wishing.

Janice: Thanks, Janice! I think the cake was richer. We're each still nursing a sugar headache. : > )
  • Sean,
Sigh. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". This one goes in the treasure trove right there with the lovely life you two are creating... and sharing. A resonate creative life.

See? This is the relationship worth having... this is why we should go after that thing...or person , or place....not settle. Happy Birthday to Cindy and many more.
But we got to share the gift. Thank you so very very much for letting us open it too. I hope your day is filled with bright burning candles that match the sparkle in your eyes, and big generous slabs of cake that are as rich as your heart. And that the joy of this day endures like the spirit you have inside.

Hugs and birthday smiles for both of you . ;-)
  • Such a wonderful poem and story, Sean. I'm always amazed how well you're able to tell a story while still writing a poem. Many people go too far towards one extreme. Their writing becomes too much of a poem and too little a story, or vice versa, but not your writing. It hits that middle ground that is perfect.

A belated happy birthday, Cindy, and thanks for the lovely post, Sean.

    Jamie
  • Barb: Happy birthday is perfect. Thank you. : > ) I totally heart that paragraph.

Katy: Beauty from ashes... Cindy will love it. Thank you, Katy.
  • A belated happy birthday, Cindy! Your life of beauty from ashes is a great inspiration.
  • Overwhelmingly beautiful. Happy birthday to Cindy seems a bit understated here, but Happy anyway! :)

(Love the paragraph in the upper right corner about your blog... Yea!)
  • Bud: Letting my soul speak is my favorite way to write. I'll read your original tonight. I look forward to it. Thanks!

Samar: I thank her for this every day. I'm flattered that I left you speechless.

Marylin: She did, though I admit we all OD'd a bit on chocolate cake.

Jon: I'll pass it along tonight, Jon. Thank you.

Kathryn: I quoted you on Twitter today, Kathryn. Thank you. : > )

Chris: Thank you for saluting my lady. She is indeed most deserving.

Jeb: I like that, Jeb. A lot... "well met." Yes we are. Thanks.
  • In my experience, pain provokes passion in a way so few things can. Perhaps because it tends to require its suppression early on. But alas, the pressure must be released eventually, all the more intense for its patience.

Both the telling of this story, and the story itself, are quite amazing. And like any work of art, they've inspired many.

It appears you two are very well met...Thank you Sean.
  • I have been trying to come up with something appropriate to write since I first read this post immediately upon publication. Like @Samar, I am having a very difficult time putting my thoughts into words.

What strikes me the most is how you overcame, Cindy.

Sean tweeted this earlier "Now who would you be if that was your start? If life battered and beat down and bruised up your heart?"

I'd be a crumpled heap of human refuse, wallowing in self-pity.

Not you! I salute you, Cindy, for your tenacity and faith.
  • Kathryn
That was nothing short of amazing. I have a lump in my throat that just wont quit....and I'm at work so that's not good. :-)
  • Happy birthday, Cindy.
  • Absolutely beautiful. I hope Cindy had a wonderful birthday. :)
  • I have no words left to comment. This page has been open for over an hour trying to come with something to say.

All I can say is: Sean, when you write about the people you love, you transform.

Happy Birthday Cindy, thank you for recognizing the talent in Writer Dad and bringing it to us.
  • I'm speechless. That poem was truly powerful. That's what happens when you let your soul talk. :)

I wrote something similar in tribute to my birth parents. (A few years back so my grammar was well you know ;)

    http://www.aboundlessworld.com/unconditional-love/

The way your words flow are just amazing. I envy your ability. You're such a great guy Sean! It has been a pleasure talking with you!
  • Blake: Thanks, Blake. I wouldn't even do Hallmark if I was busy! A few lines from my mind are better than whatever I'd pay for because they're made by me. Same goes for everyone. Save the three dollars and she'll smile wider.

Mom: Are you sure you don't mean a hamster and her babies?

Cassidy: Hi, Cass! Awesome to see (read) you. Thanks for the compliments. I hope all is well with your crew.

Friar: Uh... yeah, but you know about having nothing nice to say, right?

Jamie: I'd be a different person if I'd had even one teacher like Cindy, but then again I wouldn't have Cindy so everything for a reason, right? Thanks, Jamie!

Karen: Hi Karen! She does have an amazing trinity and I am lucky we're together. Give the boys our best.

Blogger Mom: Thanks Blogger Mom. It is wonderful to see you hear.

Asha: Sorry I made you cry. If it makes you feel any better, it's made Cindy cry a half dozen times in two days. : > )

Blogger Dad: Us too brutha, us too.

    Friar: She loves your crustiness.

GreenJello: Yes she does, and she's totally on her way.
  • Happy birthday, Cindy! May you always have the kind of life you dreamed of as a little child. You deserve it!
  • PS. Cindy, Happy Birthday.

Don't mind me. I'm just a crusty ol' Friar. ;-)
  • That was beautiful and absolutely perfect for your perfect companion! Though I already said it on the phone, Happy birthday, Cindy. I'm glad to have you and Sean in my life.
  • Amazing ... amazing love, amazing story, amazing Cindy, amazing you!
Had tears reading this. I am so happy for both of you :)
  • Blogger Mom (Blogger Dad's -er
    That was beautiful! :)
  • Karen
Happy Birthday Cindy!! An amazing woman, mommy..person. And a beautiful gift to her, Sean.
  • Happy Birthday to the most soulful teacher I've ever met. The world is a better place with you in it.

And Friar, you can camp on the couch and be the adopted black-sheep Platt until Cindy throws you out. Happy? :D
  • Another beautiful poem about a another fantastically awesome family member.

    (Sigh).

It's like "Father Knows Best" meets the Brady Bunch.

(Isn't there ANYBODY in your extended family who sucks?)

    :-D
  • Tell Cindy Happy Birthday for me. Your writing is awesome Sean...I got all teary eyed. We love you both and miss you all.
  • WRITERDAD'S MOM

p.s.....amazing , flabbergasting, beyond my wildest expecations mother's day present, my babies, sean and megan! love you more than a lioness with her cubs (and you know how I like cats).
  • Wow...who needs Halmark when your spouse can write things like that for you? Good stuff, Sean!
  • Avital: Thanks! I had no idea how this one would turn out until it was done. I was really happy with it though. Cindy cried (the good kind) so I knew it sang in the right key.

Jenn: I can never be perfect, but I can always try to be perfect for her. Well said, Jenn. Thanks.

SteadyMom: Ooh, she's going to like being likened to Jane Eyre. I can't wait to tell her that one. : > ) The visit as my pleasure.
  • What a beautiful birthday poem. It's horrifying what people will do to the children they're supposed to be caring for. I admire what she was able to do despite all the people who tried to stop her.
  • What a beautiful poem, you two are lucky to have found one another. Thanks for the virtual high 5! It made me smile. Today has been a good day, thank you.
  • What a special tribute to your lovely lady. She sounds a bit like Jane Eyre - a tragic and difficult start but an amazing finish.

Thanks for visiting my spot in the blogosphere, too!

    Jamie
  • Oh, that was so touching and heartfelt! Though I don't know anything more than just what you wrote, my heart is breaking for the little girl that she was. When you write, your heart is on your sleeve; it sounds like she has the perfect man for her!

~ A happy birthday wish for your wife!~
  • Wow, this poem is so touching. A symphony of feelings and memories tied together in a beautiful string of rhymes. Beautiful. Happy birthday!!!
  • Susan: Hi Susan! Yes, but I would add that our happy ending is still only the beginning. : > )

Janice: Me too! Best thing it's ever done, besides passing it on to my boy who laughs like me with an exponent.

Kyddryn: Very sweet, Kydd. Very sweet indeed.

Randi: No way. Cindy's basement is as dark as the come. She has yet to know privilege, but I hope to give it to her one day.

    Maya: Me too! : > )
  • Happy Birthday Cindy!
I am so glad "ever after" looks like this :)
  • I had always assumed that Cindy, with her great talents, intelligence, and strong sense of what it takes to be a truly good person, came from an advantaged background.

This poem nearly broke my heart until I got to this line "They brought her to Cali - that’s where she met me,a big burning sun and a brilliant blue sea," and I remembered that she's safe now. You know, we have all grown to love Cindy (how could you not) so thank you, Sean, for wrapping her up in your protective blanket of love and laughter. It's like she 's surrounded by her family of angels and doesn't have to wait until heaven. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CINDY! I admire you now even more than ever.
  • I wish you a joyous birthday, Mizz Cindy, and many happy returns. Blessed is the world that knows your presence.

    Shade and Sweetwater,
    K
  • "the light of my laughter full flooding her dark." So glad it did, Sean, so glad it did.

Happy birthday, Cindy - we love you!
  • You've written a moving tribute to a special person. Glad the poem had a happy ending -- you and Cindy building new laughter-filled memories.

    Happy Birthday, Cindy!
  • Kool Aid: You said enough. : > )

Lori: I'm forever fortunate she handed me her card. I'd be lost without her and not even know it.

Marc: Mrs. Writer Dad... she just smiled at that.

Jaime: They always are, but yesterday was the best one yet. Thank you.

Trina: Totally different tone I realize, but both had rhythm behind the soul. I wasn't even sure if I would post this on Writer Dad, but reading this to her yesterday was a wonderful moment and I decided it was well worth sharing.
  • Trina
Your love and adoration ooze from this offering, what a beautiful tribute to the one you hold so near.Though tough to do, you out did the Mothers day poem I'd say.Happy Birthday Cindy!
  • What a beautiful poem, Sean. I'm sure yesterday was a difficult day for Cindy.
  • Kool Aid is so right.

Happy Birthday Mrs. Writer Dad :)
  • Lori - SpaceAgeSage
An amazing story about a more amazing person. I'm so glad Sean and you found each other and are are so right for each other. Your love affirms all that is good, strong, and right in the world. Happy Birthday, Cindy!
  • There really isn't anything more that can be said - at least not from me. Happy Birthday, Cindy. I hope you have a great day!!
