Awesome poem. Very Shel Silversteinish. Sounds like you have a great dad, Sean.
  • Fantastic poem! I wish I had written it.
  • Hi Sean,

Great work with the poem, it works extremely well. We can all do better and something like this can be used as a way to keep us working towards the goal of raising great adults - of course starting when they are children! :-)
  • Rosa: Thanks, Rosa! I think the poem is cool too, in a school yard chant sort of way.

Stephen: It's my absolute pleasure, Stephen. I thank you for being a part of it.

The Stiletto Mom: Thanks squared! : > )
  • Great poem! Happy Father's Day!!
  • Sean, this was simply beautiful. You have a real talent and I'm glad you are sharing it.
  • I hadn`t read such a cool poem in a long time, this is my favorite part, it sounds so cute:
He tells me that he loves me. Then he tells me so again.
If you still don’t believe me, and think your dad’s the chief,
then I’ll just sit right here and shake my head in disbelief.
  • Sagan: Thank you Sagan. I'm thrilled to have you! Thanks for your presence over at the Inkwell as well.

Janice: How big is your dad? Mine's 6'2, though honestly this isn't specifically about my father. It's just a schoolyard chant for Father's Day that I thought would be sweet to run.

J.D. It does have kind of a neener neener neener vibe to it, but I think kids can relate to the verbal raspberries and bragadocio.

Vered: Thank you, Vered. And thank you for the Inkwell link as well. You are wonderful.

Trina: Thanks, Trina. I have big grins to match.

Patricia: My pleasure. I've gone from being embarrassed of my poetry to proud. Thank YOU for enjoying it.

    Jake: LOL!
  • My Daddy's a Pontiac,
'cause he snores when he's in the sack.
  • Thank you for sharing this with us - very clever and loud mouthed words!
  • Trina
Of all the things a Dad can be, you've highlighted the awe from a childs point of view.
    Big smiles here.
  • This is beautiful, Sean.

    Happy Father's Day. :)
  • It's a lot of name calling, but it sounds like your Dad is your first and foremost hero and that's great to see. Aside from hope, everybody needs a hero and I think you made your Dad proud with your gift of admiration.
  • I really enjoyed this - despite it being a big, fat lie. My dad's bigger than your dad!
Loved this bit and wouldn't be at all surprised to hear a version of it from Max or Mia in a few years' time, maybe with a 'they/their' instead of a 'he/his':
He taught me how to read and then he taught me how to write.
I follow his example. That’s why I am polite.
  • Beautiful poem! I'm so glad that I found you through MizFit's site- you certainly have a flare for writing.
  • Bud: Thanks Bud, that's more than enough!

    Word Seeker: Thanks!

Tammy: Thanks Tammy, I like it when my words have big mouths. : > )

Rugby Mom: Thanks RM! Awesome is good.
  • rugbymom
    Awesome.
  • OH, this is just fantastic. No words necessary to describe this. The poem does speak for itself.
  • This is a well written poem. Great Job!
  • I can't write anything else except the word "beautiful." :)
