Deb: I like the name of your site. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for stopping by.

B.Wilde: Me too. When I actually write, I'm fast, but I must be eternally conscious that I'm not frittering minutes.
  • You have captured the essence of writing for me. I have found that it's not that I experience writer's block too often, but that it's getting me to focus. Once I'm in the grove my writing will flow. However, first I have to check my email, then my other email account, then search something on Google, oh--and I've got to check out so-and-so's new post. And on and on and on. In fact recently I realized that my complaints about not having enough time are not always valid because even when I do have time I get distracted. I totally relate to this post as I'm sure so many writers do as well. This is real life. You captured it.

Kyddryn: I'm glad you'll get it when it's fresh. Nothing's as sour as a week old post.

Wendi: I will check Amazon today, and I promise to continue to just write. I wrote today about something that happened yesterday afternoon. If felt immediate, in the moment, and wonderful.

Robin: It is being flexible. I just don't want to bend TOO far.

Apathy Lounge: You'll probably like today's post even more then.

Matthew Dryden: I have mine when I know I'm going to.

I feel for you. As you know we are in the same boat. Alex gave me some really good advice and I am taking it and I give it to you. Just spend a certian amount of time each day just doing it.

I also add her advice. Just show up each day to the page and do it. Write IN the moment. Which you did. That was very real. Great job.

Chase: There are NEVER enough hours in the day, or days in the week and so on.

Brett: Someone drew a mustache on me one time, but I let them. Thanks, I do consider time my friend.

Ellen: Your novel in October! That's awesome. I can't wait to read it. I'm super happy for you. That's so wonderful. Thanks for asking about the contest. I did not. I did however, do well in the nominations. I came in fourth place, right behind Men with Pens. The contest itself was 55% how educational you are for writers. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have asked for the nomination. But it was awesome to see how many people went out and yelled my name. It was really cool.

Jamie: I'm sensitively artistic all over the place.

I have to say I'm pretty happy with my productivity today. Didn't get to my novel. But I will be done with it in October! At least that's what I promised myself and Jaden.

Unfortunately the things that don't pay take a back seat to the things that do pay. That really sucks.

Tom Chandler actually posted on how email interruptions take something like 64 seconds of your time for each email. http://copywriterunderground.com

In my undergrad university creative writing class, our professor asked us to write a poem about not being able to write a poem. It was honestly the most difficult writing exercise I had ever been handed.

  • Thoughtful and open. Where to begin? Not necessarily at the beginning, especially for a procrastinator. The important thing is not where to begin, but just. to. begin.

I tell myself while procrastinating that I'm waiting for the creative burst to happen. But that is so rare. Characterizing it as a slog before I begin demeans the unseen product. So, in essence, I am beating myself up for crappy output BEFORE it is put out. Therapy, anyone? :)

    Thanks.

    Procrastination... the enemy! ;-)

I guess creativity can't be timed to come to the boil like water. It happens when it happens.

So, I can identify with what you are saying.

The best laid plans to do a certain something at a particular time in a specific way often get derailed by this crazy thing called 'Life'.

    But, that's ok...

The main thing is- at least there IS a plan. :-)
